GBR INDIVIDUAL ENTRY REQUEST FORM FOR INTERNATIONAL COMPETITIONS

BF actively encourage fencers to compete internationally to gain valuable competitive experience.

Complete this entry request form for the following international events listed on the GBR Calendars.

  • All U14 EFC Competitions.
  • All development and non-nominated EFC and FIE events.
  • FIE Satellite competitions.

This form must not be used for nominated events where a selection process takes place to determine who has been selected at international events unless an exception has been granted, e.g. nominated satellites. For these events, selected fencers are not required to complete the form, and their names will be posted on the Selection announcements on the website and automatically invited. Please note that teams are only entered for nominated events, you cannot enter a team to a non-nominated or development event.

Important - Please read the following:

By submitting this form, you have already completed the following:

  • You have read the BF Selection Policy to confirm that you are eligible and meet the criteria for entry.
  • You currently hold the relevant FIE or EFC competition license so that you can be entered in the events.
  • Current Passport information or equivalent is uploaded and approved on your Sport:80 profile.

To avoid delay, please complete the above to ensure entry into the competition.

By submitting this form, you are agreeing to the following conditions:

  • You agree to pay the BF admin fee of £15.50 (paid through Sport:80) to process your entry. The cost is still due even if you withdraw or fail to accept your place and pay the admin fee within the invitation window on Sport:80.*
  • Each entry request should be completed separately using a new form per entry. Each request will be liable for the BF admin fee.
  • EFC and FIE competition dates are subject to change.
  • BF deadlines for events are published on the GBR Calendars.
  • Should they apply, you agree to contribute towards any referee or BF event support charges, even if you withdraw.
  • BF are not responsible for any errors you make in your form.
  • You have checked the entry deadline on the GBR Calendars and recognise that any late submission will be subject to late charges set out on the BF Fines and Charges page.
  • Withdrawals before the event should be submitted to GBR Support in writing.*
  • For U14, development or non-nominated events, you may be responsible for sourcing the required referees for the events.
  • BF reserve the right to cap entry numbers into international events to avoid paying international fines.
  • Athletes, Parents, Supporters and Personal coaches are bound by the GBR policies and codes & conduct.

Any outstanding debt owed to BF will result in suspended membership, rankings, and eligibility to enter events.

*If the withdrawal is subject to medical grounds, evidence may be required to avoid any relevant fines.

Sourcing Referees:

BF will source referees for the FIE Satellites and EFC U23 events. Please see this page on the BF website for current referees' quotas.

BF cannot source referees for other FIE and EFC competitions, including U14 events. To see current entries for the above events, click here:

This liability will be to the fencer/s responsible for arranging the referee or covering the cost of the penalty; this is not something BF will be liable for.

The rules for EFC U14 circuit events may vary - more information can be found here.

Processing your entry request:

Allow three business days to review your application. Subject to approval, you will receive an invite via Sport:80, giving you seven(7) days to complete your entry and pay any due fees. Failure to accept the invitation during this window automatically closes your invitation, and you must reapply. You will be subject to the additional £15.50 admin fees.

FIE and EFC competition entry fees are paid at the event at registration.

Data collected through this form will be held under the British Fencing Privacy Policy. and will not be shared with any other organisation.

General Terms and Conditions

Fencers should only book their flights and accommodation once they have received confirmation of their entry through Sport:80.

Any athlete wishing to be entered for Great Britain at FIE or EFC competitions, including non-nominated ones, must compete in the National Championships in the relevant category – U14 BYC's, Cadet, Junior or Senior category. Only in exceptional circumstances will an exemption be granted, which must be sought in advance and have received written approval from Head Office.

GBR entries are on a first-come, first-served basis.

All fencers are expected to check online FIE or EFC entry lists as the event approaches and actively liaise with the other team members concerning arranging referees.

After the BF deadline, entries will only be accepted if:

  • The athlete pays the BF late entry fee in advance.
  • Their inclusion does not increase the requirement to source further referees or pay a fine due to the short notice.
  • Their inclusion in the event does not create a significant financial burden to the other participants.

Any late entrant agrees to pay, source and fund any additional referee required as per the FIE/EFC competition regulations or pay the referee fine in full.

The FIE and EFC entry deadline is seven working days before the event. Late entries are at the FIE's and EFC's discretion with a fine ranging from 150 to 250 euros – the late entrant will be responsible for paying the fine and resourcing any associated refereeing costs if their inclusion in the event should increase the requirement for referees.

Entry to FIE and EFC competitions will be governed by the conditions of the particular competition and FIE/EFC regulations, and any fencer must meet such conditions/rules to be considered for entry, including holding an FIE or EFC licence.

Withdrawal from the event will incur a fine if it is past the entry deadline, and the fencer will be responsible for the total amount of the fine and any share of referee costs and fines.

If an athlete is unexpectedly injured or ill, a doctor's note must be submitted to Head Office within one week of the competition date.

Any athlete responsible for sourcing the referee for the event will receive a notification via email explaining the need for an additional referee and outlining their responsibilities.

Failure to engage in this process does not mean that you are not liable for costs. Any athlete that withdraws once a requirement for a referee is identified is still responsible for their share of refereeing costs.

Please note that ALL FIE competitions require weapon-specific FIE-qualified referees only. For EFC competitions, British Fencing recommends that the referee holds a Level 3 weapon-specific referee qualification and should be 18+. Referees do not need to be FIE-qualified—however, referees who need to be sufficiently competent risk being barred from international refereeing by the EFC.

I agree to the Terms and Conditions as described above. I agree to my contact details being passed on to other GBR fencers if requested for the purposes of arranging referees. I have read the anti-doping information on the British Fencing web site (at https://www.britishfencing.com/policy-zone/anti-doping-2/) and I understand my anti-doping obligations to British Fencing and UK Anti-Doping. I confirm I have not committed a breach of the Anti-Doping rules prior to accepting my selection.
