Little Free Library - City of North Port

North Port Parks & Recreation values our community’s support of accessible literature and reading materials through the Little Free Library program. For information on the national Little Free Library

program, including existing registered locations, opportunities and tips for success on a Little Free Library location, please visit https://littlefreelibrary.org. To ensure success of a Little Free Library, Parks & Recreation has outlined the following expectations:

The person/organization placing the Little Free Library will be responsible to:

• Pay all construction and maintenance costs of the Library;

• Supply and restock the Library with books and related materials;

• Promptly remove any items that are pornographic, profane, advocate violence against persons or property, or contain language, graphics, or any display that would be offensive to the ordinary

person;

• Promptly remove any garbage, trash, debris or other items that are not appropriate reading or literature materials;

• Monitor the Library no less than once each week to ensure that the Library is appropriately stocked and is not in need of maintenance or repair;

• Promptly make repairs to the Library to ensure that it never becomes unsightly, unattractive, or potentially dangerous/hazardous;

• Pay for any registration fee to the Little Free Library national organization; and• Allow the City of North Port, at its discretion, to place a small identification sign on the Library.

If the location and proposed construction of the Library is approved, the organization will be notified by Parks & Recreation. The organization will be responsible for any permits, the construction and placement of the Library. Once placed, the Little Free Library will be

reviewed by Parks & Recreation staff at least annually to ensure the Library is being properly cared for and is in a location the meets the needs of the community.

If the Library is not being maintained and stocked as outlined in the responsibilities section above, Parks & recreation may request that the Library is removed. If the organization does not remove the Library upon request, Parks and Recreation may remove the Library. Parks & Recreation is not responsible for any damage to the Library upon removal. Also, not responsible to reimburse any construction/supply costs incurred by the individual/organization if removed by the City.
