Science Instruction for Academic School Year

________________ Note: The below questions pertain to the present academic school year (August 2020 - June 2021). We understand that due to uncertain circumstances, you may not have this information pertaining to the Fall 2020 school year. Please provide responses based on your best understanding around this matter, if possible. ________________

10. Which of the following Science courses will you be teaching in the present school year?*

For example: Physical Science - 2 class periods

For example: 25 students in each class period

Tech Access

We would like to understand more about your comfort level with technology and your students' and classroom's access to technology with the questions below.

1. What will be your classroom's level of access to laptop computers in the present school year?*

We understand that there is uncertainty around schools reopening in the Fall. Please kindly answer this question based on if schools were to reopen and teachers & students are able to return to classrooms in-person. If you are unsure, you may answer this based on your classroom's level of access to laptop computers in the prior academic year. Please respond based on Chromebook laptops or on laptops that have the Chrome browser (or for which Chrome browsers can be installed).

Science Curriculum

We would like to understand a little bit more about your science curriculum, and the topics that you plan to teach this present school year, with the questions below.

1. In which month do you plan to cover each of the following topics? We understand that due to uncertain circumstances, you may not have this information pertaining to the Fall 2020 school year. Please provide your best understanding around this matter, if possible.

MS-PS2 Motion and Stability: Forces and Interactions

MS-PS2-1. Apply Newton’s Third Law to design a solution to a problem involving the motion of two colliding objects.

-

MS-PS2-2. Plan an investigation to provide evidence that the change in an object’s motion depends on the sum of the forces on the object and the mass of the object.

MS-PS3 Energy

MS-PS3-3. Apply scientific principles to design, construct, and test a device that either minimizes or maximizes thermal energy transfer.*

-

MS-PS3-4. Plan an investigation to determine the relationships among the energy transferred, the type of matter, the mass, and the change in the average kinetic energy of the particles as measured by the temperature of the sample.

MS-PS4-2 Waves and their Applications in Technologies for Information Transfer

MS-PS4-2. Develop and use a model to describe that waves are reflected, absorbed, or transmitted through various materials.

Please use this space to provide any additional general information or questions if needed.
