EFG Scholarship Notice of Intent

UM Graduate Students or Senior Undergraduate Students intending to apply for qualifying external grants or fellowships and who wish to be considered for an EFG Scholarship as an incentive for applying must first submit this EFG Scholarships Internal Notice of Intent at least 6 and ideally 8 to 12 full weeks in advance of the sponsor's posted due date for the grant or fellowship application.

ORSP Research Development and the Graduate School will review the opportunity and the Notice of Intent. We will determine:

  • whether the identified external opportunity is an EFG-qualifying grant or fellowship;
  • whether the applicant is eligible to apply for the grant or fellowship;
  • whether the applicant is eligible to participate in the EFG scholarship program;
  • whether the applicant's Notice of Intent was complete and on time;
  • how much the EFG scholarship will be (assuming there are still funds available in the year's allotment); and
  • any additional institutional instructions that the applicant needs to follow, and/or terms and conditions they need to adhere to, to qualify for the EFG scholarship.

Within two weeks of receipt of the Notice of Intent, we will either:

  • send a pre-approval email with instructions inviting the applicant to apply and send us proof of application, OR,
  • request additional clarifying information, OR,
  • let the applicant know if an EFG scholarship will not be an option for this funding opportunity (and if not, why not).
