2023 HLAA- Whatcom County Founders Fund Scholarship Application

This scholarship provides funding to Whatcom, Skagit & Island County students who are experiencing hearing loss and who plan to attend any post secondary school.


Please fill out each field and submit your application. This scholarship has an extended application period and is awarded each spring.


Please note that you cannot save and return to the application, so we recommend looking over the questions and writing your responses in a word document prior to filling out the application. If you have questions, please email Kendra at Kendra@whatcomcf.org.

BASIC INFORMATION

Students please note: choosing to apply for this scholarship also means that you authorize Whatcom Community Foundation (WCF) to share your contact information with the HLAA - Whatcom County Founders Fund for the purpose of inviting you to attend a club meeting.


The award total for this scholarship is divided and disbursed over a span of four years. Conditions for each annual payment are as follows:

Year 1:

Submit a Thank You note to the donor (HLAA - Whatcom County Founders Fund). A link will be provided for you after you've been selected.

Year 2-4:

Write the HLAA - Whatcom County Founders Fund a brief update describing your educational experience at the conclusion of each year of study funded by this scholarship. Submit this update to Kendra@whatcomcf.org.

To find the EFC, or Estimated Family Contribution from the FAFSA, check the SAR you received after completing the FAFSA. If you have not completed the FAFSA, you can use a FAFSA Forecaster (available online).

Remember, you can not save and return, so please write your essay responses in advance and copy them into this application when you are ready to submit. Please note the word limits on each essay.

Please share your goals for the future, and the steps you plan to take to reach them. Please limit your response to 100 words.

COVID-19 has taken a huge social and emotional toll on our sense of community. Keeping this in mind, describe how the pandemic has impacted you and your plans for the future. How are you responding and what have you learned about yourself during this time? Please limit your response to 200 words.

TRANSCRIPTS AND HEARING LOSS CONFIRMATION

  • A statement confirming hearing loss and its degree from a doctor, audiologist or hearing aid specialist.
