The purpose of this form is for students to submit their request to petition for an equivalency adjustment based on grounds that they have already completed a course that may count for part of the University writing requirement.
Upon admission to the University of Oregon, all students are advised to complete the writing requirement early in their studies. The requirement consists of WR121z and either WR122z or WR123. Students who wish to challenge the writing requirement based on their mastery of written reasoning should take the waiver exam, which is administered by the Testing Center in the first week of classes in fall, winter, and spring terms.
Information about the waiver exam can be found at this link:
Petitions are for students who have transfer credit or college-level courses in composition that may count for part of the writing requirement.
Petitions are designed to assist with students’ long-term planning rather than to resolve last-minute difficulties.
Petition results are generally available 4-6 weeks after a complete petition is received. Petitions received in week 5 or later of Spring term or during Summer term will be reviewed in Fall term.
