Award conditions*

Within two weeks after the end of your award quarter, you agree to submit a brief report on your research. Please include an update on future academic plans using the final report form.This report may be shared with donors. The final report should be written in non-technical language, and should include:

The dissertation research topic
A short summary of the research
The research findings and contributions
How the fellowship enhanced or supported the research
The stage of the research
Next steps, including future academic and/or professional career plans and anything that may be of interest to our donor(s).

In your dissertation, as well as any resulting publications, you agree to acknowledge that your research was supported by the Stanford King Center on Global Development’s Graduate Student Fellowship. We would also appreciate it if you would notify us of any publications resulting from your dissertation research.

Fellowship recipients may be required to write a thank you letter to the donors who provided the fellowship funding and may be invited to present their work at a workshop or seminar organized by the King Center.

You may not defer this award. If you find your plans have changed, you should consider withdrawing and applying again for the year in which you’d like to use the funding.

You may not hold this fellowship concurrently with any other graduate fellowship or assistantship.

Tax obligations*

Please acknowledge the following potential tax implications for your fellowship:

International students may have taxes deducted before the funds are released.

The tax obligation varies according to the student's total income, dependency status, treaty status for international students, and individual circumstances.

Residents of certain countries may be able to claim a tax treaty benefit for reduced federal taxation. For assistance with tax withholding, tax treaty and tax form issues, submit a Support Request. Student Financial Services, the Bechtel International Center, and Stanford’s Fingate provide additional information regarding tax considerations.
