PUBLIC COMMENT: EVENING COMMUNITY MEETINGS

Evening Community Meetings, according to the 2012 Detroit City Charter, are held on eight occasions over the course of the year. One meeting is held in each of the seven City Council Districts and one is held on an at-large basis.

Citizens and community organizations have the opportunity to make known by phone, prior to the meeting, their specific concerns, the addresses of problem locations, or other community-related issues for inclusion on the meeting agenda. Individuals or groups can also request to have discussions or hearings at the Evening Community Meeting on issues related to their neighborhoods.

Representatives of City departments will be present to note complaints, explain departmental plans and policies and assist citizens at resource tables on-site. The Detroit Water and Sewerage, Detroit Land Bank Authority, Detroit Building Authority, Detroit Employment Solutions Corporation, Human Resources, Purchasing, General Services, Detroit Public Works, and Buildings, Safety, Engineering and Environment Department are among the departments that will be present. Also, interpreters for hearing-impaired residents are available if requested at least 48 business hours in advance. Please note, in order to better ensure the safety of all participants, the Executive Protection Unit of the Detroit Police Department will conduct security screenings of all persons attending the meeting.
