Western Inspirational Bursary Award

Our bursary award is not a scholarship for high academic achievement. It is a character award that aims to recognize the students in our communities who have overcome various adversities, including mental health, physical disability, discrimination, financial hardship, or family issues. Despite these challenges, these students have demonstrated resilience, kindness, determination, and courage to graduate high school and continue their education through post-secondary institutions, trade schools, online courses, or the military.

How are Recipients Selected
- Each year, the Board of Directors allocates a maximum number of Inspirational Bursary Awards.
- These awards are available to qualifying nominees on a first-come, first-served basis. The program will close once the maximum number of awards has been hit.
- Each Western office is eligible to have one (1) nominee submitted on their behalf. Offices with fifteen (15) or more team members are eligible for two (2) nominees.
- A student may be nominated by a member of the school teaching, support, or administrative staff; or by a member of the school council. The final selection will be made by the school/principal and approved by the Western Communities Foundation.
- All nominations go through a two-step review process and must meet the eligibility criteria outlined below.
Student Recipients
A Western Communities Foundation certificate should be presented at the high school’s annual awards presentations, along with a congratulatory letter for the student outlining how to claim their award funds.
The student has 3 years to claim their funds. Payment to the student will be made via email money transfer so please provide contact information for the student (phone & email).
