Awards & Grants 2019 Presidents Educational Award

Originally established by CAAEYC to honor Docia Zavitkovsky, the Presidents Education Award is a $1,000 award offered to CAAEYC members to encourage pursuit of advanced educational degrees and leadership in the profession.

Docia Zavitkovsky, an icon in early childhood education, served as NAEYC President (1984-86) and was the Director of the Santa Monica Children's Centers. In 2003, she founded Play Matters, an organization dedicated to enhancing the role of play in the lives of young children.

It is the intent of the Presidents Educational Award to provide encouragement to those members who wish to pursue a graduate degree or credential and to provide fiscal support for books, tuition or general costs of advanced education.

To be eligible, an applicant must be a current CAAEYC member in good standing with a demonstrated financial need. Current enrollment in an accredited academic degree program in Early Childhood Education or Child Development is required. An applicant must also have a record of service or contribution to AEYC at the Local Chapter or State Affiliate level.

Only COMPLETE applications with all supporting documents received by the application deadline will be considered. Applications and supporting materials will be reviewed and evaluated by the CAAEYC Awards and Grants Committee and recommendations will be submitted to the CAAEYC Board of Directors for consideration. All applicants will be notified of their acceptance or declination using contact information provided on the application.

Award recipients are encouraged to attend the CAAEYC Annual Membership Meeting for the purpose of public recognition.
