Nomination Form - Outstanding Service by a Graduate Student Award
Department of English DESCRIPTION The Outstanding Service by a Graduate Student Award recognizes the contributions of students who show a pattern of service throughout their degree programs at Iowa State University. Service may include (but is not limited to) activities such as volunteering to assist in event/conference events, serving on department and university committees, administering student groups/clubs, participating in student mentoring activities, and so on. The award is intended to recognize those students who volunteer consistently and engage in a range of service opportunities at the program, department, college, university, and/or professional level. ELLIGIBILITY Graduate students in their final semester of an English department MA, MFA, or PhD program are eligible for the award. Summer graduates should be nominated in the Spring semester prior to graduation. Students nominated for but not awarded the Graduate Student Leadership award will be automatically considered for the Outstanding Service award. NOMINATION Students are nominated by their respective area within the department (Applied Linguistics, Creative Writing, Literature, and Rhetoric) based on a majority agreement of the area faculty. The nomination should be prepared by the area faculty in consultation with the student. Nomination materials include (a) a nomination letter that includes an evaluation of the nominee’s contributions to program, department, college, university, and/or professional service; an explanation of how the nominee’s service has gone above and beyond in terms of consistency, frequency, and quality; and a statement certifying that the nomination is approved by the area faculty; (b) a ‘service CV’ that lists the nominee’s service activities throughout their degree program provided by the student and appended to the end of the nomination letter. NOMINATION DUE DATES Nominations due dates are announced each Fall term for both Fall and Spring nominations.
