Program Description
Sigma Alpha Alpha Lambda (AAL) Award program recognizes members of the chapter based on their outstanding research or evidence-based practice projects. Candidates can apply for one of the three levels of award based on their highest nursing education:
- Bachelor's prepared Nurse
- Master's prepared Nurse
- Doctorally prepared Nurse
The awardees will each receive a $500 check presented at the 2025 Spring Event in April.
Eligibility
Registered nurses and APRNs who are employees at Stanford Health Care or Stanford Medicine Children's Health, are in good standing, and are current members of Sigma Alpha Alpha Lambda chapter. Studies/projects that are part of an RN/APRN higher degree program are also eligible and will be considered in the category of highest nursing education completed.

Process
Eligible candidates submit an application describing their study/project for review by the Sigma Award committee. Your study/project must be in the planning, implementation, or analysis phase. The application is scored based on the project’s alignment with institutional priorities, background and significance, and the mentor/member team assembled for the study/project.
Funds can support but are not limited to: projects to promote patient care, conference fees, travel, equipment & software. Receipts will not be required.
Proposal
In no more than 1-2 pages, single spaced, the proposal should include: Title, question or problem you want to solve, other team members on this study/project, alignment with institutional priorities (brief), background and significance, and methods (if available). Proposal should include 3-5 references (APA format). References are not included in the page limit. For research papers, include letter from the IRB collaborator/Stanford faculty who agrees to facilitate IRB submission.
Application Instructions
Complete the Smartsheet Intake Form. Attach your proposal, resume, and a letter of support from your Manager with your application. If it's a research proposal, please upload a letter from IRB collaborator/Stanford faculty.
