FDSC Undergraduate Petition

This form must be completed for all petitions related to Food Science Major requirements, including:

  • requests for course substitutions (internal, transfer, and abroad),
  • selecting or changing degree emphasis,
  • any exceptions to Major requirements.

The form is initiated by the student, approved by their advisor, and appropriate departmental personnel (e.g. Undergraduate Program Coordinator, Undergraduate Program Director, or Curriculum Committee Chair).

Petitions for course substitutions or exceptions must include convincing evidence, including official syllabi for the alternate courses and links to the program (for external and abroad courses). A clearly stated petition has a better chance of approval than a poorly prepared one.

Students should allow at least 10 days for processing. No action is finalized until the petition has been acted upon favorably and/or the form is fully processed. All petitions must be submitted prior to taking action (e.g. do not request a course substitution after taking the alternate course- it may not be approved).

PLEASE NOTE: This form should only be used for FOOD SCIENCE MAJOR requirements. For petitions to CALS/College curriculum requirements, meet with an academic advisor in CALS Student Services: https://cals.cornell.edu/academics/advising/academic/petitions/
