Certifications Application
Certifications are designated credentials earned by an individual to gain the extra knowledge needed to stay competitive and up to date in their field. Financial assistance for your certification may be available. Employees are eligible to apply for specialty certification and re-certification reimbursement upon employment. Read below for more information on eligibility, how to apply, and how to receive payment.
Requirements & Eligibility
Employees must meet the following requirements to be eligible for certification reimbursement:
- Employed at Sanford Health or Good Samaritan Society
- Looking to obtain a certification highly recommended for their current or future career aspirations within Sanford Health or Good Samaritan Society
- Has not been placed on a documented performance improvement or corrective action plan within the past 12 months
- For certifications which the employee has already paid for, a completed application with proof of receipt must be submitted within 60 days of purchase.
- Maximum reimbursement for certifications / re-certifications is $3,000 annually per employee.
Non-Eligible Reimbursements
The following certifications / re-certifications are not eligible for reimbursement through this application:
- Certifications listed on a job description as required or required to be obtained within a certain number of years after hire - Reach out to your supervisor for more information on whether your department is able to provide reimbursement.
- Primary licensure / certification (i.e. RN, LPN, CNA, Medical Assistant, Dialysis Tech, etc.) - Reach out to your supervisor for more information on whether your department is able to provide reimbursement.
- ACLS, PALS, NALS, TNCC, etc.
- Continuing education credits or preparation tests
How to Apply
Before completing the application, review the Certification Pre-Pay Code List to verify if your certification has a Sanford code to utilize upon registration. Follow the appropriate application process below based on whether your certification is listed or not:
- If your certification is included on the list, complete the application below prior to registering for your certification/recertification. After submitting your application, wait to receive your prepay code with redemption instructions within 7 business days.
- If your certification is not included on the list, all approved certifications are eligible for prepayment, however the employee must submit proof of certification costs with their application to be considered. Complete the application by selecting Other for the Please select your certification option. After submitting your application, your request will be reviewed, and your direct leader will have 5 business days to determine approval. Upon approval, employees will receive payment within 5 business days. Review the Payment section below for more details.
- If you have already paid for your certification, complete the application below within 60 days of purchase date, note that you have already paid, and include proof of your receipt to be eligible for payment.

Payment
If certification has not been paid for and/or is not included in the above list of prepaid certifications, review the following:
- Employees must provide proof of payment/cost in order to be considered for reimbursement.
- Awarded monies are provided directly to the employee via direct deposit. Employees are required to have their expense payment election for direct deposit set up in One Source (Workday) before payment is to be sent.

- Upon completion, employees are required to upload their certification in One Source (Workday).
- Employees who receive reimbursement or are provided funding for certifications/re-certifications are required to continue their employment at Sanford Health as either full-time or part-time staff for a minimum of one year following the reimbursement date for certification, or re-certification. Failure to do so may necessitate repayment.
Educational assistance for specialty certification is distributed throughout the fiscal year.
Add Certification in One Source (Workday)
All employees need to upload their certification into One Source (Workday).
