Thank you for your interest in research with OHSU in Coos Bay! The SOD research program is one of the top-ranked dental/ oral health research programs in the country and continues to grow. We have exceptional research domains in the school that include biomaterials and biomechanics; tissue engineering; the oral microbiome; and community dentistry. The goal of the Dental and Oral Research program is to create pathways to careers in dental, oral, and craniofacial research by opening doors to undergraduate scholars, particularly from rural and underrepresented communities within Oregon, by providing research opportunities.

Discover the connection between oral health and overall well-being. Join the OHSU Campus for Rural Health (CRH) internship program, where you can contribute to community health projects and gain invaluable real-world experience.


What you will need to complete the application:

  • Resume/CV (highlight science courses and relevant lab experience, if applicable)
  • Unofficial transcript(s) from the past 12 months (if selected, official transcripts will be required)
  • An essay explaining your motivation for applying to the internship program and how you expect the experiences gained over the summer to facilitate your career in biomedical research (1 page, single-spaced)
  • At least one and up to two letters of recommendation from a professor or supervisor who can comment on your potential to be successful working in a laboratory performing basic science research.
