VI. Qualifications

To qualify as a Police Officer for the City of Clearwater, you must have one or more of the following:

A minimum of 30 semester hours of college credit from an accredited college or university.*

Currently certified as a law enforcement or corrections officer, having successfully completed two years of service, not including academy attendance.*

Have received an honorable discharge from active duty in one of the armed services, having successfully completed a regular enlistment of at least three years without early separation.*

VIII. Additional Hiring Criteria

The hiring criteria for those seeking employment as sworn personnel are as follows:

Must be at least 19 years old
US Citizen (born or naturalized)
No Marijuana use in the past 12 months
Never bought, sold or offered to sell any controlled substance
No illegal use of controlled substances in the past 5 years
Drug use must be deemed experimental by the department
No Felony Convictions
No misdemeanor convictions involving moral character offenses, perjury, being dishonest, or domestic violence offenses

At least one of the following:

30 College Credits
3 years of Active Military service with honorable discharge
Currently certified as a law enforcement or corrections officer, having successfully completed two years of service (not including academy attendance)

Have good moral character as determined by a background investigation under procedures established by the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission.

Certifiable per the requirements in F.S.S. 943.13 (7)

Deliberate omission and/or falsification of the personal history form will be an automatic disqualification.
