As part of WorldStrides mission to make experiential travel possible for as many participants as possible. We believe in expanding access and increasing opportunities for individuals from various backgrounds to become global learners by reducing financial barriers. This scholarship is intended for participants looking to create an impact on the world around them, bringing their own personal perspectives to their travel destinations as the learn about the communities they visit.”
Participants are eligible to apply for this scholarship if they have registered for a WorldStrides program/tour and meet at least one of the following eligibility factors:
Identify with one or more of the following: White, Black/African American, Hispanic/Latinx, Asian, Indigenous People, American Indian, LGBTQIA+, Alaskan Native, Native Hawaiian, First Generation College/University Student, US Military Veteran, Student with Disability/Disabilities, Pell Grant Recipient
Financial hardship: Individuals with an annual adjusted gross household income up to $85,000 or can provided documentation that the participant qualifies for a financial subsidy demonstrating financial hardship (ex. qualified for free or reduced school lunch, Map or Pell grants, Section 8, or low-income housing subsidy)
Currently attend a minority-serving institution: These institutions include 1) Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) that were founded prior to the Civil Rights Act of 1964 that were created to educate African Americans 2) Predominantly Black Institutions that do not meet the legal definition of HBCUs, but primarily serve African Americans. Eligibility is based on serving an undergraduate population that is both low income (at least 50% receiving Title IV needs-based assistance) and in which African American students constitute at least 40% of the student population. 3) Hispanic Serving Institutions that serve an undergraduate population that is both low income (at least 50% receiving Title IV needs-based assistance) and in which Hispanic students constitute at least 25% of the students’ population. 4) Tribal College or Universities that are formally controlled, or have been formally sanctioned, or chartered, by a Native American tribe. 5) Alaskan Native or Native Hawaiian Serving Institutions - that serve an undergraduate population that is both low income (at least 50% receiving Title IV needs-based assistance) and in which Alaska Native students constitute at least 20% or Hawaiian Native students constitute at least 10% of the student population. 6). Asian American and Native American Pacifica Islander Serving Institutions that serve an undergraduate population that is both low income (at least 50% receiving Title IV needs-based assistance) and in which Asian American or Native American Pacific Islander students constitute at least 10% of the student population.
Is a first-time passport holder: Intended for who will need to apply for a passport for the first time in order to attend a WorldStrides program but are not eligible for financial hardship scholarships.
