Synthesis Application

This application form is used by students to apply for the Human Biology Synthesis (HumBio 192 series). The synthesis allows students the opportunity to craft a culminating, creative work of scholarship based on a synthesis of personal and academic interests, including service projects. It is appropriate for students who wish to expand their Area of Concentration through a creative project, to include mediums such as creative writing (non-fiction or fiction), and alternative media (visual arts).

Faculty Mentor Information

The faculty mentor for your synthesis project can be your HumBio major advisor or any other faculty member.

Please describe the role your faculty mentor will have in your project e.g. how will the two of your interact, what kind of support will they provide, what sorts of plans have you two made, etc.


Synthesis Proposal

Provisional Synthesis Project Title

Paste in a 150-250 word overview of what you propose to do. The abstract should include how you see this project as a Synthesis of your academics, personal values and extracurriculars with an explanation of the scholarship that it will draw upon.

Be sure to include any relevant coursework.

If there is a specific person that you are working with, please include their e-mail.

If from a course, please include the name of the course and the assignment details that this project builds from.

What do you plan to complete in the fist quarter? Include actionable checkpoints for weeks 4, 6, 8 and 10.

What is the final output of your Synthesis project? (in other words, what medium or form will your final project take? e.g. will it be an essay or paper, collection of photographs, a short film, a research conference or event, etc). If possible, identify a piece of work that is your aspirational vision (in other words, include a link to something in the style of what your final product might look like).

Will your Synthesis project entail any additional expenses? If yes, please provide a brief explanation of those expenses and how they relate to your final product For example, some projects might involve materials, printing / framing, equipment rental, or other expenses to create the final product.
