Portland Parks & Recreation URBAN FORESTRY is giving away free trees!

• Limit 2 trees per address.

• Trees must be planted in private yards within Portland city limits.

• Trees cannot be used to fulfill permit requirements.

Yard Tree Pledge

We are happy you want a tree, but it comes with responsibility and rewards!

I pledge to:

• Review the planting and care instructions that come with my tree before planting.

• Water the tree 15 gallons of water per week, May-Oct, for at least the first three years.

• Plant the tree at the address provided that is inside Portland city limits.

• Plant the tree on my property, not in the planting strip, or in the public right-of-way (the space between the sidewalk and curb).

• Plant the tree in the ground, not in a container.

• Allow Urban Forestry to monitor the tree's survival and health once a year.

• Contact Urban Forestry or a tree care professional with questions about my tree.

• Return the tree to Urban Forestry if I cannot plant it.

• Ask permission from the property owner to plant the tree, if I am a renter.

Tree Species

• We are offering 21 different high-quality tree species. Check out the size and characteristics of the giveaway trees here. Quantities are limited, if your choices are sold out we will contact you.

• Is the tree you were hoping for no longer on the list? We won't have any more trees available this year, but you can fill out our Yard Tree Giveaway interest form and we will contact you when registration opens in September 2023.

• Yard trees should be planted a minimum of 10 feet from your house, two feet from property lines, and five feet from a driveway. For advice on where in your yard to plant your tree, check out Right Tree, Right Place from the Arbor Day Foundation. www.arborday.org/trees/righttreeandplace/
