Become a Member of the Maryland Center for School Safety Student Focus Group
MCSS is seeking energized and enthusiastic students who want to positively influence school safety efforts throughout the State of Maryland. We are now accepting student applications to join the MCSS Student Advocate for School Safety (SASS) program.
Students in grades 8-12 during the 2023-2024 school year are encouraged to apply if they are interested in becoming an advocate for school safety.
SASS members will:
- provide insight on the student perspective related to school safety topics,
- be provided the opportunity to expand their knowledge about school safety topics through collaboration with Maryland Center for School Safety (MCSS) staff,
- volunteer to assist MCSS staff with training events and other activities,
- serve as a local advocate for school safety.
PROGRAM EXPECTATIONS include:
the student conducting themselves in a manner that positively represents MCSS and the program,
receiving and responding to the occasional (2-4 times a month) email communications from MCSS staff related to opportunities to engage in activities,
volunteering to participate in at least one engagement activity during the year,
share with MCSS staff their local school safety advocacy efforts as well as emerging school safety concerns through a quarterly survey response.
Following review of your application you will be contacted to arrange a brief virtual meeting to learn more about the program.
