Robert F. Smith Mentor Interest Form

Please read below for further details and to indicate your interest in being approached to serve as a mentor for a future intern.

Details

Professional mentorship is a key aspect of the Robert F. Smith Internship Program. Each year, seasoned professionals dedicate their time, energy, and talent to emerging gallery, libraries, archives, and museum professionals.

Mentors commit to attending a 15-minute virtual orientation, meaningfully connecting with their mentee at least 4 times over the course of 12 weeks, and to completing a brief online evaluation at the end of the program.

Many mentors wish to continue their relationships long after the end of the formal program.

Process

Every April, the Museum surveys selected RFS interns about their interests, areas in which they want to grow, and where they want to establish their careers. We use that information to reach out to professionals across the country to maximize the amount of support and guidance we can provide over the course of the 12-week program. Mentors are typically introduced to their interns between mid-May and early June.

If you indicate interest with this form, your information will be added to a database as someone to approach should your profile match an intern's needs. You can request to be removed from our database at any time by e-mailing RFSInternships@si.edu.

Filling out this form is not a commitment to serve as a mentor nor is it a guarantee of a mentee match.

We aim to pair interns with a mentor knowledgeable about an area where the intern wants to build a career. For instance, if you live in New York but worked for many years in Philadelphia, you could be a good match for an intern looking to establish a career in Philadelphia.
