2018 MPS Run Back to School Volunteer Sign-Up Form
The 12th annual MPS Run Back to School is coming on Saturday, August 24, 2019, and we are once again looking for volunteers just like YOU to help make this exciting event better than ever!
There are many ways to volunteer, including cheering on walkers and runners as a course marshal and passing out water at water stations. All volunteer assignments will be done no later than 11:00 am. Your race captain will officially dismiss you after the last runner/walker has passed your designated area.
7:30 a.m. - All volunteers check in at the volunteer tent.
8:00 a.m. - Area Captains meet with volunteers and report to assigned locations.
9:00 a.m. - Run/walk begins.
10:30 a.m. - Run/walk ends (when all runners/walkers have passed the finish line).
11:00 a.m. - Entertainment and carnival games end.

Course Marshal Description: Help with course set up and take down. During run/walk, stand at designated location to provide visibility and direct the runners/walkers. After the last runner/walk has passed, collect cones or any other equipment in your designated area and return to staging area.
Water Station Description: Pass out cups of water to runners/walkers. Use dispensers to pre-fill a number of cups to be ready to hand out in quick succession. Collect all discarded cups into garbage bags. Bring drink/water dispensers, any empty bottles and extra water/cups to the finish line.
Will you have a car available on race day?
After submitting your volunteer application, you will be called or emailed to confirm your Run Back to School volunteer assignment. Please note your assignment and report time carefully. Unless noted, all volunteers should report by 7:30 a.m. to the Volunteer Tent at Wick Field. Following registration, our orientation session for all volunteers will then begin at 8:00 a.m. sharp, so please make sure to give yourself plenty of time to arrive, sign in, pick up your volunteer t-shirt, and get ready for the fun to begin! All volunteer assignments will be done no later than 11:00 a.m. Your race captain will officially dismiss you after the last runner/walker has passed your designated area. Information regarding what to wear, where to check in, where to park, etc. and map of the RBTS course will also be provided. The course is a lovely walk/run through Washington Park and the Washington Heights neighborhood!

In the event of any injury requiring medical attention, I hereby grant permission to the recreation staff (including volunteers) to attend to my son/daughter or myself including seeking medical attention.
WAIVER: I/we recognize that unanticipated situations and problems can arise during Recreation activities that are not reasonably within the control of the recreation staff (including volunteers). I/we therefore agree to release and hold harmless the Milwaukee Board of School Directors, its agents, officer, employees, and volunteers, from any and all liability, claims, suits, demands, judgements, costs, interest and expense (including attorneys’ fees and costs) arising from such activities, including any accident or injury to myself or my child and the costs of medical services.
PHOTO PERMISSION/RELEASE: I understand, as parent/legal guardian of the above-named child, that there are times when the local news media, national news media and/or nonprofit organizations partnering with Milwaukee Public Schools request the opportunity to videotape, take photographs and/or interview children within Milwaukee Recreation and Milwaukee Public Schools. I also understand that and release I give permission to Milwaukee Public Schools to make or use pictures, slides, digital images, or other reproductions of me, of my minor child or of materials owned by me or my child, and to put the finished pictures, slides, or images to use without compensation in broadcast productions, publications, on the Web, or printed or electronic materials related to the role and function of the Milwaukee Public Schools. I understand that by signing this, I am, on behalf of myself and my child, releasing MPS and its directors, officers, employ.
