  2. Statement of Interest. In 500-750 words (11 or 12 fonts), indicate how your experiences and training have prepared you to carry out the Resident Director's responsibilities. Also, describe your personal and professional goals in seeking the position.

CSU IP will not have a resident director for the Spain and France programs starting the academic year 2025-26. Unfortunately, this action was necessitated for financial reasons.

Administrative Experience

Language Proficiency

Language ability is an essential criterion for the selection of Resident Directors. If you are selected for an interview, a language professional will assess your language ability in a brief oral interview. Language Proficiency Levels are based on the Inter-agency Language Round-table (ILR) scale set by the U.S. Foreign Service Institute.


  • No Proficiency. You may know a few words at this level but can't form sentences or carry on any conversation.
  • Elementary Proficiency. You can form basic sentences at this level, including asking and answering simple questions.
  • Limited Working Proficiency. At this level, you can handle basic work commands and social phrases. You can carry on limited casual conversations at the office and discuss your personal life.
  • Professional Working Proficiency. You can contribute to office meetings, have conversations with clients, and carry out most work functions at this level. You may have an accent at this level and require help understanding subtle and nuanced phrasing.
  • Full Professional Proficiency. At this level, you can have advanced discussions on various personal life, current events, and technical topics such as business and finance.
  • Native / Bilingual Proficiency. You were raised speaking the language or has been speaking it so long that you are completely fluent.
