Drinking Water Lead Sample Requests

The Detroit Water and Sewerage Department (DWSD) is providing free testing for lead in the drinking water as part of Lead Safe Detroit.

To qualify, you must have a lead service line coming into your home that is connected to the water main. The participating household must upload a photo of the service line inside the home at the water meter, and collect the tap water sample by adhering to the instructions given with the sample bottles. For any other questions about sampling for lead in drinking water, please call 313-267-8000. If a child in your home who has an elevated blood lead level, please call the Detroit Health Department at 313-876-0133. If you need assistance going to your basement to verify the service line material to complete this request, please ask a family member or trusted friend.
