We are grateful that more than 3,600 people responded to our Mascot Makeover survey! We reviewed the results, including every response written in by participants.
After careful consideration and feedback, the workgroup is recommending the use of a Bear as the future mascot because:
- It was a top choice in the survey results
- It met the workgroup's selection criteria, which included a native plant or animal that represented the college community well
- It embodies the strength, perseverance, intelligence, confidence and uniqueness the campus community expressed they wanted in the survey
- The beautiful symbolism of bears, which Native History faculty have described as a symbol of strength, courage and intrepidness; sharing similar traits with our students
- It makes the mascot more unique within our Athletics conference as well as entire Community College System
Details of the type of bear, its style and its look will come later. Full survey results and a longer description of the workgroup's reasoning are available from the links above or at www.mtsac.edu/mascot.
