Bridge Funding Application

The School of Medicine (SOM) supports competitive applications for the Bridge Funding Program offered by the UCI Office of Research.


If you are a PI who has experienced a significant reduction from extramural sources, you may qualify for this award. Application requirements are included in this form. More information, including eligibility requirements can also be found here.


Please complete the following application and return to the SOM by Tuesday, March 25, 2025, 11:59 PM PST.

Application Requirements

Please review the following requirements and upload your you application as one PDF document under "File Upload." You can email a copy of your application to yourself by checking "Send me a copy of my responses" before submitting.

Proposal

Your proposal must include the following:

  • Description of your funding history for the last five years, current financial needs, and attempts to re-establish funding. The application does not need to describe in detail the research for which funding is requested because this program does not evaluate research quality per se.
  • Agency comments on unfunded proposals, priority scores and pay lines, if available.
  • For research involving the use of human subjects, animal subjects, or human stem cells, please provide the relevant HS#s, IACUC#s, or HSCRO#s.

Budget

Your budget requested can be up to $50,000 and must include the following:

  • Detailed budget of proposed expenditures
  • Budget Justification

Assistance can be requested for the following expense categories:

  • Supplies
  • Animal Care
  • Salaries/Benefits for research support personnel (excluding graduate student researchers).

Bridge Funds cannot be used for:

  • Travel
  • To cover budget overdrafts
  • PI and co-PI salaries (including Summer salaries)
  • Graduate Student Researchers
  • Administrative costs (i.e., school and departmental surcharges)

CV

Include a two-page CV and complete publication list.

Department Letter of Support

The letter of support from your Department Chair must include a financial contribution.
