Background

The Climate Investment Funds (CIF) enable climate-smart planning and climate action through large-scale, low-cost, and long-term financial solutions to support low and middle-income countries in achieving their climate objectives.

The CIF launched its official Observer program in 2010 to engage non-state actors and promote institutional transparency and accountability.

As official Observers, Civil Society Organization (CSO), Indigenous Peoples Organizations (IPO), and Private Sector Entities (PSE) representatives can participate in the CIF Trust Fund meetings, where decisions are made about climate policies are enacted and projects funded, participate in the formulation of national climate strategies, and monitor the implementation of local CIF-financed climate projects. Observers also network with and inform the constituencies they represent at the regional and national levels.
