Business Information

If different from legal business name.

If not ground floor and street facing, you will be prompted to provide permission from the street-facing business owner(s) and property owner(s) in front of which your patio will be installed. A copy of an email or an official letter signed by the owners will be accepted.

Are you located within the Main Street Pedestrianized Area (MSPA)?

If outside of the pedestrian area, you will be prompted to upload an application for a Special Engineering Road Use Permit – Patio & Parklet Structure. This will be for the installation and tear-down of your patio.

If located within the MSPA, do you need vehicular access not intended for general purposes—such as regular deliveries, operations, or construction – for regular business activities within the closure area?

If yes, you will be prompted to upload an application for a Road Use Permit. This will be for vehicular access to the pedestrian area.

Does your business possess a valid (paid) business licence for the current year?*

This also includes Vendor business licences for those businesses to whom this applies.


Patio Details

What is the height of the patio platform above grade?*

If greater than 0.6m, your ISP permit application also requires that you obtain a building permit through the Planning Department. Apply directly to Planning for a Building Permit and utilize the Uncovered Deck checklist.

Will alcohol be served on your patio?*

Please note that it is the business owner’s responsibility to obtain a valid AGLC liquor licence to the extension of the business premises.

If there are changes, please submit an application via the New ISP application stream.

Your insurance must be for $5 million of coverage per occurrence. Please note that the Town of Canmore must be listed as an additionally insured party and your coverage must include your patio

If applicant business is located outside of the Main Street Pedestrian Area.

If applicant business is located within the Main Street Pedestrian Area and is requesting such access.

A Building Permit is required if the patio platform height above grade is greater than 0.6m.
