2019 Osteopathic Family Physician Educator of the Year

Completed applications are due to ACOFP by September 1, 2018.


The Joseph W. Stella, DO, FACOFP dist. Osteopathic Family Physician Educator of the Year Award honors an individual who exemplifies the osteopathic family medicine profession’s highest standards of excellence in teaching and has made significant, commendable, and longstanding contributions to the academic advancement of osteopathic students, residents and the osteopathic profession.

Those nominated for the award will remain on the list of nominees as potential recipients for two years after the initial year of nomination.

The American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians will recognize one individual for his or her accomplishments as "Joseph W. Stella, DO, FACOFP dist. Osteopathic Family Physician Educator of the Year Award" with a plaque during the ACOFP Annual Convention and Scientific Seminar.


Must be an ACOFP member in good standing.

Must be an ACOFP Fellow (barring extenuating circumstances in which the Board of Governors will waive this requirement).

Must be currently active in osteopathic education.

Must demonstrate commitment to the osteopathic philosophy and profession.

Must exemplify and encourages osteopathic principles when teaching.

Must have an extraordinary impact on students, peers, an academic institution, the osteopathic profession and/or the community.

Must demonstrate compassion and leadership in his or her role as an educator.



The nominator must be a student, resident or active member in good standing with the ACOFP. The nominator must submit the following for nominee:

A completed and signed Nomination Form.

A signed letter of recommendation, including examples of the nominee’s achievements.

At least one additional letter of recommendation, from an individual other than the nominator, conveying major contributions made by the nominee.

A current curriculum vitae.

All information must be sent in one complete packet to the ACOFP.
