Helen Jacobson Cafourek graduated from the Sioux Valley Hospital School of Nursing in 1933 and worked 45 years as a registered nurse. This scholarship was established by her son, Garry, as a tribute to her dedication to nursing and family.

Purpose: To make funds available to those who need financial assistance for their nursing education. The award with be granted to those pursuing a career in nursing who demonstrate the initiative and ability to graduate from their program. Recipients must live within the Sioux Falls region (boundaries determined by Sanford Health).

To honor the spirit of Helen, preference will be placed upon single parents, financial hardship, and those who convey her passion for nursing and family.

Eligibility: Students who are enrolled and actively working towards their undergraduate nursing degree.

Award: Two $5,000 scholarships to be awarded each year.

Distribution: Scholarships will be awarded in January.

• Students – The application has a section to complete and upload your W-9 form, please complete this prior to submitting your application. Once we confirm your W-9 form is completed accurately, a paper check will be mailed to the address listed on the W-9 form.

Application Submission Requirements:

• One scholarship reference from an instructor, current Supervisor or Academic Advisor
• Proof of Enrollment (Letter of Acceptance)
• Unofficial Transcript
• GPA must be 3.0 or higher to be considered
• Scholarship Essay
