Fall 2024 RICC Student Application
You are applying to the RUTGERS INTERNSHIP AND CO-OP COURSE. (Please right click so the link opens in a new tab)
I know that the application I am filling out right now is for either 01:090:201, 01:090:202 or 01:090:203. None of these courses will fulfill any core or major requirements that may be required by my major, and will only provide elective credit towards graduation. If I want to earn major or core credit, I will reach out to my academic advisor to determine which course will meet this requirement. Checking the box means that I have read and understood this statement.
This section of the application asks questions about you and your eligibility. The next section of the application will ask about your internship.
Note: RICC is NOT a placement program. Please wait to apply for this course until you have secured an internship.
Please do not list a gmail/yahoo or other personal email address.
Select all that apply.
Please use a phone number with a +1 country code.
This would only be for a very time-sensitive scenario, if applicable.
Please note that students at Rutgers University Newark or Rutgers University Camden are not able to take this course, because it will not transfer. THERE ARE OPTIONS AT YOUR CAMPUS! Reach out to your academic advisor and/or your university career office to find out which course you should enroll in for internship credit.
If you are an RBS student, please know that you may have more than one option to earn internship/co-op credit. This course is NOT the RBS course - for that, please apply through Business/CareerKnight. However, note that the RBS course and RICC both only offer general elective credit, counting the exact same way towards your degree. All students are welcome to take RICC, if eligible, regardless of major or school.
If you are a Supply Chain Management student or a Marketing student looking for major credit, please apply to the RBS course through Business/CareerKnight. If you are approved through Business/CareerKnight, you will be placed in the correct course.

F-1 and J-1 students must have further authorization to participate in off-campus employment. Please review the Rutgers Global – ISSS webpage on CPT/AT and contact Rutgers ISSS for advising help before beginning any employment.
Please direct any CPT questions DIRECTLY to a RU Global advisor at global.rutgers.edu. (Please right click so the link opens in a new tab.) Our office (Career Exploration and Success) is unable to answer your questions regarding CPT.
Students on an F-1 Visa using CPT are not eligible to take the six credit co-op course, because the course requires a minimum of 30+hours per week.
I understand that, as an international student and depending on my immigration status, I may have to obtain work authorization from the RU Global (International Student and Scholar Service) prior to beginning an internship or co-op.
This next section is about your internship and organization specifically. Please fill out all information as accurately as possible. Any mistakes or blank answers will result in a delay of reviewing your application.
If you are working for a for-profit industry in an unpaid internship, you can apply for the Bright Futures Internship Stipend! This is a scholarship, meaning it is not a loan.
Please email internships@echo.rutgers.edu to learn more or if you are interested in applying. The RICC team has final review over confirming your eligibility. If you apply, your application will not be considered if you do not meet eligibility requirements.
An example of this: Social Media Intern, Software Engineering Intern
Note that providing a personal address or a gmail.com address will result in a review delay to verify a work-connected email address.
If you are only being "compensated" by credit, please select no.
We encourage all students to review the Fair Labor Standard Act #71, which highlights protections for interns. Our office takes this very seriously and will advocate for students and their wellbeing above all else.
Positions that require 30+hours a week and pay less than legal minimum wage are in violation of CES' s interpretation of the Fair Labor Standards Act. (Please right click so the link opens in a new tab).
Consider either asking for less hours or discussing financial compensation of at least minimum wage in order for you to remain eligible for this course.
The following is an ethics agreement that you will be responsible for upholding during your time in this course.
Please type your initials next to each statement to show that you have read it, understand it, and agree.
Please review the Career Exploration and Success (CES) policies and procedures. I agree to abide by the Offer Acceptance and On-Campus Interviewing & Resume Submissions policies.
Students cannot take two different internship courses for the same internship at the same time. I am aware that if Career Exploration and Success (CES) determines that this policy has been violated, it will result in the grade of NC for the Rutgers Internship and Co-Op Course and potentially further consequences, depending on the severity of the situation.
I am aware that I cannot earn internship/co-op credit more than one time for the exact same experience. Any experience at the same organization/continuation of an internship/co-op must change.(Ex: If you're working at a company in the Fall and want to continue in the Spring, you can take this course again, but it must be for a different department or your title must change)
I authorize CES to share information included in my educational and internship/co-op record with their respective employer, and relevant Rutgers parties as needed.
I further authorize internship/co-op employers to release an evaluation of my performance to CES.
I understand that in order to be eligible for the internship credit, I must be enrolled in an internship/co-op course. Employers cannot issue internship credit - only an academic institution can. I cannot earn internship credit without being enrolled in a course, and I will only earn internship credit if I pass the course.
I understand that any documentation that is indicated to be signed or filled out by a supervisor must be filled out by that individual. I cannot fill out or sign any documentation on behalf of my supervisor, regardless of the circumstances. I understand that if I sign or fill out any documentation on behalf of my supervisor, it will be referred to the Office of Student Conduct..
I will notify CES immediately if there are any changes to the internship, including but not limited to: the job duties, the supervisor, the company name, the position/internship/co-op itself, compensation, or anything else in my internship/ co-op that are inconsistent with the terms to which I initially agreed.
I will notify CES immediately if, in my opinion, my internship or co-op subjects me to unhealthy or unsafe conditions or illegal behavior or activities, including sexual harassment, illegal discrimination, fraud, or safety code violations.
I acknowledge that I am liable for the payment of all federal, state, and local taxes imposed on the compensation I receive during my internship or co-op.
I also understand that any compensation I receive during my internship/co-op may affect my financial aid and that it is my responsibility to contact the Financial Aid Office to determine what effects, if any, will impact my financial aid eligibility.
I understand that my internship/co-op is only for a specific period of time while I remain enrolled as a student at Rutgers, that my internship/co-op will expire automatically, and that I will not seek unemployment compensation benefits at the expected end of my internship or co-op.
I understand that as a student of Rutgers University, I am representing the University in a professional setting, and as such I am expected to uphold the same levels of conduct as outlined by the student code of conduct and therefore any act of professional misconduct, or violation of the professional code of ethics may result in consequences.
I understand, acknowledge, and agree that in the event I violate any of the above provisions, or any Rutgers policy or procedure, I may be subject to the following sanctions: loss of academic credit for the internship or co-op experience, loss of eligibility to participate in future internships or co-ops, referral to the Rutgers Office of Student Conduct.
By checking this box, I verify that I've read and understood this application to the best of my ability and that all information provided in my application is accurate and true.
