You meet our admissions requirements!!!

Please continue the rest of the form!.

Now that you have been pre-qualified it's time to learn more about us and get you ready to apply!

While you do not meet our GPA requirement, you may still qualify for admission via our Cohort Method

While you do not meet our basic gpa requirement, you can still be considered using our Cohort GPA Admissions process. To do so, you are required to respond to a series of 10 questions either in writing or via virtual interview.

The Cohort method works as follows: Let's say there are 100 people enrolling in your cohort. If 50 have a 3.5 and 50 and a 2.5, we could potentially admit the entire group because the average GPA of the cohort is still above a 2.95.

Please select the items below that you would like to learn more about.

Admissions Requirements

To be admitted to the program you must have a bachelor’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution and have a GPA of 2.95 or higher. If you do not have a 2.95, you can still be admitted using our Cohort method. With this method, as long as the cohort you are entering will still have an average GPA of 2.95 after adding in your GPA, you can still be admitted.

In order for us to make an admissions decision, you must submit the following:

  1. Application
  2. Official Transcripts
  3. Resume

You do not have to have the MTTC passed in order to be admitted. You will need the MTTC passed before we can grant your certification, but you can be admitted and begin your coursework immediately!

How to Enroll

To be considered fully enrolled you must:

  1. Be admitted
  2. Submit all required documents
  3. Pay your enrollment fee
  4. Pay your program fee (either pay in full or select a 15 month payment plan and make the first payment)

Once these steps are complete, you will be able to begin your coursework!!

Testing & Certification Requirements

To be granted an Interim Certification, you must;

  1. Pass all required tests for your desired content area(s).
  2. Possess a valid CPR/First Aid/AED Certificate from an MDE approved provider. Click Here for a list of MDE approved providers.

While most content areas only require the MTTC test, there are some areas that require additional and/or alternative testing (i.e., World Languages, Bilingual Education, American Sign Language, etc.). These are discussed later in the process.

Also, please note that you can gain certification in multiple areas with no additional program fees and no additional coursework (except SPED). Your only additional cost is the test fee(s). You will also have to meet the teaching time requirements as outlined later.

Program Length & Teaching Time Requirements

All alternative certification programs are 3 years by law. However, the coursework is front loaded and must be completed within the first 13 months.

After you complete the course work in 13 months or less there will still be two years remaining in the program. During this time there will be a few observations and two yearly assessments.

The Interim certification is good for five years. It can be converted to the Michigan Standard certification after successfully teaching for three years.

The Michigan Department of Education requires that Interim certification holders provide verification of teaching for three full years within the area of certification. Individuals seeking additional endorsements must teach for at least 50 hours in each subject area during the three-year period. For those teaching part-time, 600 hours of teaching time over a five-year period are required.

Coaching

During your time in the program you will be assigned an Instructional Coach, a seasoned educator with many years of experience. Your coach will both help you understand and grade all of your coursework. Since there is no student teaching, they essentially stand in the place of that experience. Your coach will also help fine tune skills such as classroom management, writing lesson plans, etc.

Coursework

All of our courses are online and self-paced. The coursework is the equivalent of 12 – 18 credit hours depending on the grade bands (elementary, secondary K-12). This is basically one semester's worth of work but you have the equivalent of two semesters to complete it.

Please note that Additional Endorsements are only for those who currently hold an Interim, standard or professional certification.

If you have never been certified please select "Initial".

Note: Substitute permits, emergency permits, etc. ARE NOT considered certifications.

For ASL endorsements:

The ASL endorsement (FS) is available for interim certificates even without an MTTC. In lieu of an MTTC, candidates must demonstrate ASL proficiency on an alternative assessment to earn the FS endorsement. The preferred alternative assessments are the ASLPI (American Sign Language Proficiency Interview), SLPI (Sign Language proficiency Interview) and ASLTA (American Sign language Teacher Association). These proficiency assessments in ASL are based on the testing protocols and levels referenced in Michigan’s ASL teacher preparation standards.
