The Annie McGann Cumpston Scholarship Application

Created in May 2003 by family members (in particular Drew & Carol Cumpston ’77 Gilmartin) in memory of Annie McGann Cumpston, daughter of Tom and Megan McGann ’82 Cumpston, after Annie’s death at age six on March 23, 2003. Historically, scholarships are awarded to six students: two Freshmen, two Sophomores and two Juniors at The John Carroll School who have given significantly through community service. This scholarship will be applied toward tuition for the awarded students.


Deadline to Apply: March 28, 2025


Eligibility: Current Freshmen, Sophomores and Juniors


Application Requirements & Process: Complete the application below, including an essay.


The winners will be chosen by the McGann & Cumpston families, together with the Advancement Office, based on the merits of the essays. The John Carroll Advancement Office will notify winners in writing. The awards will be presented annually by members of the family.

Please list all activities, clubs and teams in which the student participates.

Please submit an essay, no more than two pages in length, double-spaced. The essay must cite a specific time in your life when you participated in a community service project/program and what impact it had on your life. Include details on your volunteer work throughout the years and what impact you think your service has had on others. Please also include why you chose to come to The John Carroll School.
