2023 Major Event Grant Applications

The Town of Canmore Major Event Grant Program provides funding to Canmore-based not-for-profit societies. Funding will support the planning and delivery of national and international events that elevate Canmore as a world-class destination, create awareness and promote regenerative tourism, and align with the Town’s livability, environment, relationship, and economic development goals.


Who is eligible? Not-for-profit societies responsible for the organization and execution of major events in sport, recreation, arts, and culture that are recognized by the respective governing bodies as national and international level events. Town of Canmore Facility Use

The Town of Canmore may consider the in-kind donation of a municipally owned facility to carry out event activities for events that benefit the community.



Fees may apply for the presence of a Facility Monitor, and any required or requested Town services and equipment. Subject to the Master Fee Schedule, and the cost recovery pyramid as outlined in the Town's Community Event Policy.

Describe how this event will:

  1. Draw national and international participants, visitors and media attention, showcasing the best of what Canmore has to offer, and
  2. Offer an experience-based, authentic celebration of Canmore’s Mountain lifestyle.

Describe how this event:

  1. Is accessible, inclusive, and affordable
  2. Promotes an inclusive and safe event, and
  3. Is relevant to the culture and identity of the community of Canmore

Describe how this event:

  1. Takes initiatives to reduce its environmental impact,
  2. Educates participants and spectators on ways that they can reduce their environmental impact, and
  3. Indicates how the event works to create a thriving destination that regenerates and heals resources

Describe how this event:

  1. Demonstrates a meaningful approach to considering and integrating Indigenous people into the planning and delivery of the event, and
  2. Works in partnership with the municipality, business community, and not-for-profit organizations to build mutually beneficial outcomes


This event will have positive impacts on the local economy.


Note: Economic criteria are considered more heavily outside of the high season (June-September, holidays).
