Site File Research Request

Michigan State Historic Preservation Office

Greetings!

Consultants with more than one project for research must submit each project individually with a unique Information Request Project Name. Staff will use the information submitted to determine if we have relevant files for you to view and how to best transmit them to you. Due to the significant volume of research requests, we appreciate your patience. The current turn-around time is 2-3 weeks.

THE SHPO IS UNABLE TO ACCEPT IN-PERSON RESEARCH APPOINTMENTS AT THIS TIME.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. Our goal is that a public-facing database portal will be available for consultants in the near future.

At this time, we are only able to provide research for archaeological files. Our survey reports and site files have been sent off-site for scanning. We are planning to make those digital files available through our online-database once the scanning project is complete.

Thank you for your patience as we work to improve our services.

Research Request Information

Please provide a brief descriptive name for your request. As the SHPO receives a high volume of research requests, this will help us keep them organized if there are follow-up questions. If you are requesting information for a federally funded/licensed/permitted project, please provide the project's name.

If you are requesting archaeological information, provide the names of the USGS quad maps on which the locations would be mapped.

If you are requesting information from the archaeological files, you must also include a complete list of Township, Range, and Section numbers in your research area. Be sure to include your full Area of Potential Effects or one-mile radius (FCC projects), not just the footprint of the project.

(Consulting firm, university, municipal/state/federal government agency, etc.)

Most follow-up will be via email, although if it is deemed more efficient to call, we will require your phone number to reach you.

Please select all Federal Professional Qualifications met by the person requesting research information from the SHPO. The Federal Professional Qualifications have been published in the Federal Code of Regulations, 36 CFR Part 61.
