Translation/interpretation intern

1-    BACKGROUND

The USAID-funded Visit Tunisia Activity is a 5-year project designed to enhance Tunisia’s tourism potential, with the goal of generating revenue and jobs, particularly for women and youth, and for populations in underserved regions of the country. The overall vision behind USAID’s investment in Tunisia’s tourism sector is to capitalize on Tunisia’s natural, cultural, heritage and historical sites to develop a more diversified and high-quality tourism sector that contributes to broad-based economic growth. Through this activity, USAID seeks to contribute to Tunisia’s growth and development to offset the negative economic impact of the coronavirus crisis. The project will seek to achieve the following four objectives:

•    Objective 1: Enhance Tunisia’s competitiveness as a tourism destination.

•    Objective 2: Increase tourism-related investments and revenue.

•    Objective 3: Improve the enabling environment for sustained growth in the tourism sector.

•    Objective 4: Private sector engagement to expand the offer and quality of alternative tourism.


This project will collaborate with the relevant ministries, private sector, and donors to advance the objectives while contributing to the following high-level results:

1.    Increase in the number of tourists.

2.    Increase in the number of jobs in the tourism sector.

3.    Increase in tourism revenue.

4.    Increase in private sector-led investment and innovation in the tourism sector.


2-    POSITION DESCRIPTION

USAID Visit Tunisia Activity is hiring a Translation/Interpretation Intern with mastery in English, French, and Arabic (Standard and dialect). This 6-month internship will involve working closely with a senior translator/interpreter. Applicants must be in their second year of a translation/interpretation master's program. 3-    DETAILED RESPONSIBILITIES

•    Ensure accuracy and precision in both translation and interpretation tasks.

•    Strive for high-quality work, avoiding machine translation and major errors.

•    Transparent communication regarding deliverables and task timelines is essential.

•    Perform other duties and responsibilities as required.

•    Provide quality interpretation/translation between Arabic, French, and English for all components of USAID Visit Tunisia Activity.

•    Collaborate with project teams to meet communication needs in alignment with corporate and client standards.

•    Effectively interpret/translate diverse individuals with varying accents, speaking tempos, and personalities.

•    Deliver precise translations of written materials and verbal communication.

•    Collaborate with USAID VT team members to align translation with formatting, terminology, and style as per USAID VT requirements.

•    Ensure translations and interpretations maintain all information without any additions or omissions.

•    Fulfill other duties and responsibilities as required.

•    Quality translations and interpretations in Arabic, French, and English for all project components, including reports, technical documents, communications, meetings, conferences, and public communications.

•    On-time delivery of all translation and interpretation tasks as per agreed timelines.

•    Clear communication and timely updates on project status and progress.

•    Adherence to confidentiality and data protection requirements.

•    Submission to senior translator/interpreter of translations to meet quality standards.

•    Utilization of the latest translation and interpretation technology for enhanced quality and efficiency.

•    Professional and ethical conduct, respecting cultural differences and diverse perspectives.


4-    PERIOD OF INTERNSHIP

This is a short-term internship position for six (6) months Starting from September 1st.


5-    LOCATION OF THE ASSIGNMENT

Hybrid: office/WFH


6-    SUPERVISION AND REPORTING

The intern will be supervised/will report to the Senior Translator/Interpreter


7-    QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates must be in their second year of master’s studies (translation/interpretation, linguistics, international studies) at least.

Candidates must be proficient in all project working languages (Arabic, English, and French).

Previous experience in translation/interpretation is desirable.
