PROGRAM INFO:

  • We offer workshops and field trips for all ages
  • We will adapt the content of each topic to be age-appropriate for your group
  • We provide hands-on experiential learning
  • All our workshops can be linked to the Ontario curriculum


TRIP FEES:

Half-Day Trips

  • 10 am –12 pm or 12:30–2:30 pm
  • $15 + HST per participant (min. charge of 20 participants)
  • 1 adult supervisor for every 10 participants is free, additional supervisors are $10 each

Full-Day Trips

  • 10 am –2:00 pm
  • $20 + HST per participant (min. charge of 20 participants)
  • 1 adult supervisor for every 10 participants is free, additional supervisors are $10 each


Please Note:

  • Requests may take up to 5 business days to process.
  • Prices do not include lunch.
  • Some activities have an additional fee to cover prep, material and/or ingredient costs.
  • We have a minimum charge for 20 participants.

In some circumstances, we may be able to accommodate larger groups with previous notice and adequate support. Please get in contact with us at farmschool@blackcreekfarm.ca in order to request accommodations for any group exceeding 30 participants per visit.

Allergies and/or Food Restrictions - There are components of our programming that involve tasting and making food. It is crucial we have all the information regarding allergies and dietary restrictions in order to make the necessary arrangements prior to your visit (e.g., celiac or other food allergies, vegan, Halal, Kosher).


Please note: We have beehives on site.


Accommodations/Participants with Exceptionalities - Please list any accommodations your group may require in order to fully participate in the activities we have planned. Having an idea of your group's needs beforehand will help us plan in order to provide the appropriate support for your visit.

Program Request

These programs are designed to inspire participants to take an active role in their health and the well-being of their communities through food justice, environmental stewardship, sustainability, and engagement.

Workshop and Field Trip Program Options

Sample topics and activities are below. Please let us know if you have a particular topic in mind and we will do our best to include it in your program.



Farmer for the Day

Participants get to experience a day in the life of a farmer

  • Explore different farm tools and their purpose
  • Learn about honeybees and native pollinators
  • Feed our worms and learn about vermicomposting
  • Meet our chickens
  • Learn about greenhouse growing
  • Participate in a planting or craft-making session

Outdoor Survivalist

Participants are encouraged to take an active role in learning, protecting, and enjoying the outdoors

  • Learn how to identify native species & wild edibles
  • Participate in a nature connection & food forest walk
  • Look for signs and track the animals that visit the farm
  • Make and take home nature crafts

Earth to Table

Get hands-on experience in the process of bringing fresh, seasonal produce from farm to table

  • Learn the many benefits of eating local and go on a tasting tour
  • Learn what guerrilla gardening is
  • Make seed bombs
  • Learn the connection to food justice and the work farmers at BCCF do
  • Food preservation and preventing food waste

Urban Agriculture and Beyond

Participants will have the opportunity to explore and engage with the farm and make connections to the topics below through interactive activities and dynamic discussions

  • Food justice and food sovereignty
  • Food literacy and body acceptance
  • Indigenous land-based teachings
  • Environmental stewardship
  • Climate action

Subsidy

Local schools and organizations within our catchment area (M3N, M9M, M9L, M3J, M3L) or that serve within a low-income community in Toronto/York Region can receive a subsidy to cover program fees. Local community groups and schools in the Jane & Finch and surrounding area have priority for subsidized fees.
