Suited for Success Scholarship

The Suited for Success Scholarship was established at The University of Texas School of Law in 2020 by Jonathan Pelayo '07 and Mia Lorick. The program provides $750 in financial support to first-year or second-year law students to acquire professional attire.


Eligibility: Applicants must demonstrate financial need through this application and/or be a member of one of the following student organizations:


APALSA

CHLLSA

First-Generation Law Students

OUTLaw

TMLS


Recipients will be selected by a committee consisting of Law School staff.


Students who are selected to receive scholarship funds for professional clothing will have 30 days to complete their purchases and submit itemized receipts via online form to the Law School Financial Aid Office. Required policies are provided below.

You may include pertinent information regarding your financial need, including your status as the first in your family to graduate from college, or socioeconomic characteristics such as yearly/familial income.

SUITED FOR SUCCESS POLICIES FOR RECIPIENTS


  1. A Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is required to be on file to apply and receive funding. The FAFSA is just one factor in how the committee will assess a demonstration of need.
  2. Upon notification that funds have been distributed to you, you will have 30 days to make your clothing/accessories purchase(s) and submit itemized receipts. The Texas Law Financial Aid Office will provide instructions on how to submit your reimbursement in the award notification.
  3. All of your clothing/accessories purchase(s) must abide by business professional and/or business casual attire standards. If you have questions, need assistance, or would like suggestions, contact Rémi Ratliff at rratliff@law.utexas.edu
  4. All recipients will be required to submit a thank you letter to the donors through the Alumni Relations and Development Office.
