IIMPORTANT INFORMATION - PLEASE READ: The FIE has just informed us that they are holding FIE exams for referees who have EFC “C” licenses.


The 2024 FIE refereeing examination will be held in Bucharest in date of 26-29.09.2024.

Referees wishing to be considered for selection should complete this form. With a 'first come, first served policy' we need to select quickly - the selection meeting(s) are expected to take place in the week of 10th June to allow us to inform the FIE by 14th June (the deadline for hotel booking) and receive confirmation of the places asap.


Referees should not make any non refundable arrangements until they have received final confirmation from BF they have been successfully entered. Note that BF will in turn be waiting for confirmation from FIE that the places have been secured.

You must be a member of BF to be selected for the exam. Your FIE licence must also be up to date or the FIE will not accept your application.

BF will aim to cover the following costs in accordance with BF Expenses Policies 1) Travel 2) Accommodation 3) Food on production of receipts. Please breakdown methods of travel and associated costs excluding hotel accommodation in Bucharest and excluding transport between airport/ hotel.


NB - Resit candidates will normally be expected to cover all costs associated with sitting the exam and do not need to complete this section.

  • ambition to be selected for major EFC & FIE Championships and
  • intention/availability to support International events (eg particularly FIE Junior World Cups) next season and beyond. NB The FIE expect newly qualified referees to be active on the international circuit (Junior and Satellites) in the seasons immediately following their exam.

Focus on international level experience

To be eligible for selection, referees must have an exam preparation plan in place, ideally agreed with/signed off by their mentor, which would cover activities between selection and exam to ensure the candidate is prepared as best as they can be.


Describe your anticipated preparation for the exam. Include revision, any online training and competition refereeing.

To be eligible a referee must be proposed by an existing FIE qualified referee, ideally their mentor.


The expectation is that your proposer/mentor supports your application and will support any required training between now and the exams.

If your proposer and mentor are different people put both names and contact details in making it clear which is which.

I confirm that

  • I am a current EFC C license holder in that weapon
  • I have passed a BF Level 4 (Mock FIE) exam in that weapon within the preceding 24 months OR have signed up to sit the Level 4 exam at the British Open 2024.

  • Ability to be a professional role model for BF, working collaboratively within the British and International system
  • Engagement levels with the Referee Development Programme, both as a participant but also as a mentor/developer of up-and-coming referees (L1-EFC C)
