Program Description

Stanford Summer Research Program (SSRP)-Amgen Scholars Program

Help create the summer of a lifetime for scholars in the Stanford Summer Research Program (SSRP)-Amgen Scholar Program. Join the SSRP family as a Program Leader (PL)!

The SSRP is an 8-week intensive research experience for undergraduates from across the country who come from a diverse range of backgrounds and skill levels. In addition to the research they conduct in labs, the program emphasizes professional development and preparation for graduate school applications. The mentorship provided by PLs is pivotal to scholars' growth as scientists, and the connections they create are invaluable. This summer we anticipate hosting ~20-22 scholars in our program.

Responsibilities: Each PL typically works with a group of 2-3 scholars, and focuses on professional development skills including, but not limited to, communication skills (written and verbal), organization of information, and presentation skills/techniques. Additionally, PLs will also:

  • Participate in mandatory leadership orientation/training (Date and Time TBD).
  • Mentor and help facilitate a positive research experience for SSRP participants from June 21-August 16, 2025.
  • Meet with a small group of SSRP students weekly to help them develop their scientific presentations and posters for the SSRP Symposium in August.
  • Serve as a liaison between SSRP administrators and participants' labs to monitor progress and to help identify and remedy any problems.
  • Attend planned evening and/or weekend SSRP events and field trips and assume various administrative and programming responsibilities.

Time commitment: Pre-program responsibilities will require approximately 8 hrs per week. During the program, PLs will work 16 hrs per week. PL onboarding will start Mid March- early April 2025. There are paid opportunities for Head PL, Senior PL and PL positions.
