Fiscal Year 2026 SRO Grant Application
The School Resource Officer (SRO) grant provides funding opportunities for local school systems and law enforcement agencies to assist in meeting the requirements of the Safe to Learn Act of 2018 §7-1508(e) and §7-1508(h) enacted during the 2024 Maryland General Assembly session. The statute requires each local school system to file a report with the Maryland Center for School Safety (MCSS) identifying:
(i) The public high schools in the local school system's jurisdiction that have a school resource officer assigned to the school; and
(ii) If a public high school in the local school system's jurisdiction is not assigned a school resource officer, the adequate local law enforcement coverage that will be provided to the public high school.
The statute also requires each local law enforcement agency to:
(i) Enroll individuals assigned to be school resource officers in the model training program developed by MCSS; or
(ii) Submit to the Maryland Police Training and Standards Commission for approval a training program that is consistent with the curriculum developed by MCSS; and
(iii) Enroll individuals assigned to be school resource officers in the training program.
