Distinguished Faculty Professionalism Award
This annual award recognizes up to two faculty who are current active faculty members of the University of Colorado School of Medicine.
The purpose of the award is to:
- Recognize faculty members who consistently demonstrate exemplar professional behaviors, including being courteous, respectful, empathic, and altruistic, providing service to the community, demonstrating dedication to lifelong learning, and who contribute to the teaching, service and administrative activities of their department and the School.
- Indicate the value University of Colorado School of Medicine places on professionalism and efforts to advance the academic mission.
- Nurture a positive culture at the University of Colorado School of Medicine
ELIGIBILITY:
Nominee must be a University of Colorado School of Medicine full-time (at least 50% FTE) faculty member at any academic rank. 10 years post completion of final training (e.g., 10 years post completion of MD, PhD, etc.).
They must have a sustained, substantial, and current footprint in teaching, service, and administrative activities of their department and the School. The awardee cannot be a previous recipient of this award. See previous awardees here.
AWARD CRITERIA:
1) Excellence in Teaching, Mentorship, and Service:
- Held in high regard for their teaching, mentorship and/or leadership abilities and contributions.
- Fosters curiosity, lifelong learning, and empathy in their interactions.
- Contributes to leadership roles within the School.
2) Professional Integrity, Humanism, and Ethics:
- Serves as a role model for professional excellence through embodying principles of professional integrity, humanism, and ethics.
- Demonstrates accountability for actions and decisions.
- Demonstrates commitment to life long professional development.
3) Positive Impact on the Academic Community:
- Creates a positive learning environment characterized by respect, empathy, and humility.
- Values and supports all individuals in their pursuit of knowledge and personal growth.
- Promotes interdisciplinary collaboration across departments, institutions, and the community to address complex challenges in academic medicine.
4) Exceptional Service to the University of Colorado School of Medicine:
- Dedication and commitment to CUSOM mission and principles.
- Demonstrates respect, integrity, and accountability.
- Cultivates curiosity, empathy, dignity through the recognition of privilege.
NOMINATIONS:
Nomination will be accepted from learners, peers, chairs, division chiefs, and other academic leaders. Please attach letters of support (maximum of 3) that may include students, trainees, colleagues, division chiefs, department chairs, or other leaders which clearly address each area of the four criteria areas above. This award is intended for the faculty who embodies and exemplifies the values of professionalism. The review committee will select awardees based on the information provided in these letters. Please combine all letters of support into a single PDF and submit in one nomination submission.
