2024 IMSD Mentor Agreement Supplement
The IMSD program is pleased that you would like to serve as a mentor for an IMSD scholar. The IMSD T32 training grant goal is to diversify the pool of individuals who are part of the biomedical workforce. To do this, the IMSD program not only pays the stipend + tuition for a scholar for 3 years, the IMSD program also provides supports and additional programs in addition to the BSGP to enhance the success of scholars to ensure that IMSD scholars graduate successfully contribute to the biomedical workforce including $1000/yr for travel to conferences.
Please also note, that the IMSD T32, like all T32 awards, can only provide the NIH defined stipend and tuition. If this amount is less than the BSGP stipend + tuition, the additional cost must be covered by unrestricted funds from either the mentor or the department.
The support that the IMSD program provides to enhance IMSD scholar experience includes: a 3-week jumpstart prior to the start of the BSGP program, learning communities throughout their graduate training, required F grant writing workshops, peer-mentoring throughout their 3 years as IMSD fellows. You will be asked to provide support to your IMSD fellow as needed for these required activities.
The NIH requires close tracking of IMSD scholar success. To track progress, IMSD directors will meet regularly with IMSD scholars as well as mentors. You will also be required to fill out an annual evaluation of the IMSD scholar and the IMSD program for NIH progress reporting.
As mentor of an IMSD scholar, we also ask you to participate in IMSD activities to support your IMSD scholar and the IMSD program. The activities are listed below. Please indicate which activities you will participate in. We will reach out to you as the need arises for each of the activities.
