Australian Fire Cadet Championships 2025 -
Junior Leader Application Form
CFA has once again been invited to participate in the Australian Fire Cadet Championships (AFCC) which will be held at AGH Camp - South West Sydney, Douglas Park, New South Wales.
CFA is looking for 4 Junior Leaders to participate in the program as Coaches and Managers of the 2 Junior Teams. Each team will be made up of 6 Junior members, 1 Team Coach and 1 Team Manager and will be accompanied by a CFA staff member from the Youth Programs Team.
The teams will leave Melbourne on Sunday the 28th September (one day before the Championships) and return Thursday 2nd October 2025.
There will also be a training day on the 26th of July, with accommodation provided on the 25th July at YMCA Lady Northcote (Glenmore). Members will need to be transported to and from this training session. All successful Junior applicants are invited to spend the night of the as accommodation prior to the training day. It is expected that the staff team is present for this day to get to know their teams.
CFA will be covering the cost of all flights, accommodation, meals and transport within New South Wales. Leaders will be required to arrange their own transportation to and from Melbourne Airport (Tullamarine), and to and from our training day at Ballan, but are eligible for travel cost reimbursement after the trip.
Championship experience is welcomed. However, applicants do not need championship or competition running experience, as all AFCC 2025 event activities are run to NSW RFS rules and are not aligned to current CFA championship events.
Key Responsibilities & Requirements
General
- Demonstrate CFA’s values and abide by the Code of Conduct.
- Work with CFA staff & Junior leaders to make sure that Junior members are safe and looked after throughout the program.
- Undertake online trainings and briefings as required.
Team Coach
- Accompany the team to each Championships event.
- Ensure the team arrives at the appropriate events at the allocated time.
- Assist the team in their understanding of each event and practice for each event.
- Assist the Team Manager in the supervision of team members.
- Fill in for the Team Manager if the Team Manager is unable to fulfil their responsibilities.
Team Manager
- Team administration before, during and after the Championships.
- Register the team upon arrival at the Championships on Tuesday 25th September.
- Supervise team members.
- Ensure the proper conduct of team members and team officials at all times.
- Oversee any competition protests that may be lodged to the Incident Controller.
- Participate in the Team Managers’ Forum.
Key Selection Criteria
- Be a registered Junior Leader of an endorsed and active CFA Junior Brigade.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the importance of Child Safety principles and practice.
- Hold a current and valid Working with Children Check.
- Have the ability to manage young people in high pressure, unfamiliar environments.
- Enjoy working with young people and seeing them achieve their best.
- Want to actively build the firefighting, teamwork & leadership skills of young people in the CFA.
- Relevant experience in managing young people (Championships experience is preferred but not necessary).
- Demonstrate an ability to work as a team.
Applicants will have their applicants sent for Captain and ACFO approval if successful.
Medical information and photography permission will be collected from successful applicants.
