Therapeutic Recreation Internship

Students applying for a Therapeutic Recreation internship must have accomplished:

  • A minimum GPA of 3.00 in recreation and leisure classes.
  • A cumulative GPA of 3.00 for all coursework.
  • Completion of at least 400 hours of work/volunteer experience in leisure services.
  • Completion of all therapeutic recreation core curriculum courses.

Completed applications will be reviewed, and interviews will be scheduled when appropriate. In-person interviews are preferred, but TEAMS interviews can be used as well. Once the appropriate information has been reviewed, a letter of acceptance or rejection will be sent to the student.

Students in the internship program at Scottish Rite for Children will be expected to complete 40 hours per week for 14 consecutive weeks on a non-paid basis. Students are to make necessary arrangements so that no conflicting commitments during the internship will occur. Any deviation from this schedule will be considered on an individual basis and must be approved by the academic advisor and agency supervisor prior to the beginning of the internship.
