FIRST Washington Grant Application 2018-2019

This application is to be completed by FIRST Washington teams. This is a competitive grant process with funds granted to teams who are in the greatest financial need.

Our grants are for FIRST LEGO League, FIRST Tech Challenge teams across Washington State and teams who compete in the PNW FIRST Robotics Competition District. We do not give grants to teams outside of our service area. The information on this form is used to match your team with grant opportunities.

FIRST Washington needs to understand your team goals and budget to be your partner in helping to match donors/sponsors to your team. At the end of the application, you will be asked to upload your current budget file with revenue and expenditures. Please communicate your team goals and budget for this upcoming season in advance. This will help you prepare. Only one grant submission per team.

FIRST Tech Challenge Teams: Thursday, September 13, 2018, 4:00 p.m.

Please help answer some questions about volunteer mentors and educators. We consider any adult volunteer or parent volunteer working with your team to be a mentor.

There will be a distinction between educators / staff hours and mentor hours. We fully understand that many of the educator hours are actually unpaid volunteer hours. Our use of this information takes that into account. Thank you for your efforts.

How many adults on your team are considered educators, school staff, or paid staff?

How many total hours did all of the educator and staff expend on behalf of your team. Include time with the students, planning time, and waking hours during travel. Please exclude overnight sleeping hours, even though they might technically be considered supervising students.

How many individual mentors (exclude those in the educator/staff number) work with your team in a significant capacity. Significant capacity means meeting regularly or perhaps doing an important function for the team. Interacting with the team, providing direct logistics support, or working with students to direct part of the project.

For each of your mentors, estimate the number of hours they worked on behalf of your team. Include time with the students, planning time, and waking hours during travel. Please exclude overnight sleeping hours, even though they might technically be considered supervising students. We are asking for the aggregated number of hours. If one mentor contributed 100 hours, and two mentors contributed 200 hours, then we would expect to see 500 hours reported.

If yes, please provide the amount per year in the field below.

If you answered yes above please provide the annual stipend amount paid to the Coach/Mentor for this team. If no stipend is paid, put 0 in this field.

Please enter the names of the companies that your mentors are affiliated with. Separate each company with a comma. You don't need to duplicate the companies (i.e. If you have three Microsoft employees, a single Microsoft will suffice). Please double check the spelling of the company names.

This section is going to ask you to summarize your team budget. Round numbers are appreciated, rounded to the nearest $100 is just fine. For example, if your FLL team budget is $578, $600 would be an appropriate answer. Please be as considerate as possible with these answers, they are used for planning purposes by our investors. Your accuracy is appreciated.

Please upload a copy of your current budget in addition to the summary below. Preferred file format is Excel. Google Sheets is acceptable.

How much does your team expect to raise for the upcoming season? Estimates using this past year's revenue are acceptable if your new budget is not yet complete.

How much does your team expect to spend on the upcoming season. Include registration fees, supplies, travel, and any stipends.
