Chemonics International Inc, a U.S. based international development consulting firm, seeks the following long-term positions for the USAID Next Generation Early Grade Reading Activity (NextGen) in Malawi. The $75 million activity aims to solidify and build on the contributions made to date as part of the implementation of Malawi’s National Reading Program (NRP) towards improving the delivery of high-quality early primary reading instruction in all Malawian primary schools. The $75 million activity aims to solidify and build on the contributions made to date as part of the implementation of Malawi’s National Reading Program (NRP) towards improving the delivery of high-quality early primary reading instruction in all Malawian primary schools. We are seeking individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.


1.    Professional Editors


Principle Duties and Responsibilities:


Professional Editors will support Malawi NextGen to edit early grade teaching and learning materials for USAID Malawi NextGen reading based on Competence Based Curriculum and following guidelines provided by USAID Malawi.


Qualifications:


  • Master’s or bachelor’s degree in education or related relevant field
  • Experience in editing instructional materials for reading programs in different contexts/ languages.
  • Strong background in instructional development specifically in the editing phase
  • Significant experience in the primary education sector in Malawi


Required:


  1. An updated curriculum vitae and application letter describing how the candidate meets the above qualifications and experience in editing primary education materials.
  2. A sample of an education material which was produced individually by the applicant.
  3. A price quotation with the following details: Editing service per page (unit price MWK, withholding tax inclusive)

2.    Graphic Designers


Principal Duties and Responsibilities:


Professional Graphic Designers will support Malawi NextGen to design and layout early grade teaching and learning materials aligned to the Ministry of Education National Reading Programme formats, styles and USAID branding requirements.


Qualifications:


  • At least five years’ experience in graphic design, industrial design, or fine arts. Bachelor’s degree in any of the above fields is strongly preferred.
  • Experience designing instructional materials for Ministry of Education and/or USAID.
  • Demonstrated experience working with a team of international and Malawian technical experts.
  • Demonstrated experience working with Ministry of Education officers, including Malawi Institute of Education
  • Experience guiding print specifications and communicating with printers to ensure accurate and on time delivery of materials.

3.    Translators


Principal Duties and Responsibilities:


Professional Translators will support NextGen to translate from Ministry of Education teaching and learning materials from English to Chichewa, Chitumbuka, Sena, Yao, Tonga and vice versa.


Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Translation or a related field.
  • Experience translating learning and teaching materials for government programmes and USAID early grade reading programs.
  • Demonstrated excellence in the use of written Chichewa, Chitumbuka, Sena, Yao, Tonga.
  • Strong background in use of Chichewa educational materials.
