Student Employment Exception Request Form

Submit the form below to request a student employment exception. This form must be completed by the hiring department, not the employee. Please submit requests with as much advance notice as possible, and we will do our best to respond to all requests within 5 business days.

Academic years run from Fall-Summer.

  • A "free term" is when a student works while enrolled in less than the required credits (8 credits for undergrad, 5 credits for grads). Each student gets one per academic year unless granted an exception.
  • Three consecutive free terms are never permitted. If you wish to continue employing an individual after two free terms, you must hire them as a temp employee.
