Impaired Driving Resources
SD EMS for Children partners with the SD Office of Highway Safety to provide education and resources about Impaired Driving to people across the state . As part of this, the following resources are available at no cost to your organization.
The I Choose Program
We have built the I Choose program for peer education, driver's education instructors, law enforcement, our PECC's or anyone who would like to educate South Dakota teens on the risks associated with driving impaired. The I Choose program is able to be taught in an hour or over several days. This program covers things like how SD laws affect drivers charged with a DUI, effects of alcohol on the teen brain, and having a plan when an uncomfortable situation arises.
Resources that you can order for the I Choose Program include:
- A 10 page booklet for each student and the instructor
- A puzzle activity
- A Commitment Card for the students to sign, making the commitment to not drive impaired
The I Choose Roadmap
New! The I Choose Roadmap was created for those students who may have already experienced the I Choose Program.
This interactive learning tool helps students work in groups to find and understand information about impaired driving and other fun aspects of South Dakota.
Promotional Materials
Additionally we have a variety of resources to promote making good choices surrounding Impaired Driving. Let us know how many you think you would need, and we will reach out if we have questions.
Impaired Driving Sticky Notes: These post its have 2 different safety messages on them. They would be great for student groups to put on lockers, programs, or on vehicles around events like Homecoming, Prom, Graduation, Holidays and Sporting Events. They are packaged in a pack of 10, so ordering 1 pack of sticky notes = 10 standard pads.
Impaired Driving Floor Clings: These can be placed on hard surfaces and later removed if needed without harming the flooring.
Impaired Driving Posters: Great reminders with facts about Impaired Driving.
The resources provided by SD EMS for Children are available for organizations located within South Dakota. If you have any questions, please email us at sdemsc@usd.edu.
