Job shadowing is available to all Bozeman Health employees (FT, PT, or CC) in good standing.
New employees within their probationary period will require manager approval.
Employees are responsible for finding their own preceptor and making department arrangements (i.e. scheduling, attire, departmental expectations, etc.).
Employees are permitted to observe only; no direct patient care of any kind will be allowed.
Employees will be required to submit several documents before and after the shadowing experience:
- Job Shadowing Request Form
- Job Shadowing Enrollment Form
- Job Shadowing Reflection
Employees may job shadow for a total of 16 hours within a period of 3 months unless additional hours are needed to fulfill an application requirement for a specific program in which they are seeking enrollment. If this is the case, additional documentation will be required.
One job shadowing period will be available per employee per calendar year. If an employee wishes to shadow multiple preceptors or departments, all shadowing must be completed within the 3-month period.
Job shadowing is unpaid time (unless education hours are applied; see below) and must be completed during personal, unscheduled time.
Education bank hours may be used (if available). Employees wishing to apply education bank hours must coordinate with their manager.
Employees may not wear their employee ID badge or be identified as a Bozeman Health employee to patients. Employees will be provided a student ID badge and lanyard that must be worn at all times while in an educational capacity.

This Job Shadowing program does NOT apply to employees who are seeking observation as part of a currently enrolled program or an academic, formalized course of study. If this is the case, do not complete this form. Instead, reach out to studenteducationcoordinator@bozemanhealth.org for information regarding our student process.
